Coral Sunset sits above a shallow fringing reef on Tukutuk Bay on the south-east coast of Efate. The house opens onto its own pool and a private stretch of coral beach; most evenings, the sunset comes in over the water, which is how the property was named.

The house

Warm hardwood walls, louvred shutters, and a wide deck under a string of festoon lights. Rattan lounges, hibiscus cushions, and doors that open onto the pool, the lawn, and the ocean beyond.

Pangona & Efate.

Pangona is a small coastal community on the south-east side of Efate, thirty to forty minutes from Port Vila along Devils Point Road. Quiet, green, and close to a lot of the island's best swimming.

Getting here

Direct flights to Port Vila from Brisbane, Sydney, Nadi, Christchurch, and Auckland. Rental car recommended — we suggest World Car Rentals.

Food & provisions

Stock up on the drive from Port Vila — Au Bon Marché, Manples, Dynamic, and Sama Sama. No shops in the immediate area.

Nearby

Mali Beach Club, The Beach Bar, Banyan, Stonegrill, and the Blue Lagoon are all a short drive. Happy hour at Mali is 4:30–5:30pm.

Beyond the house

Snorkel the natural reef pool, kayak the lagoon, or drive to the Mele Cascades — a spectacular tiered waterfall a short trip up the road.
